RTA gets richer by Dh16.37m

Dubai: The last auction of the distinguished vehicle number plate for the year 2007 fetched Dh16.37million for the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Distinguished number G-10000 was highest bid and was sold for Dh990,000. A total of 54 plate numbers were sold in the auction held in a hotel in Dubai.

The fifth lot of number plates will go under the hammer on January 12 at the Emirates Palace hotel, and will include sought-after numbers such as 11111, 40000, 990, 9900 and 656, state news agency Wam reported.

Switzerland stops eBay Iraq relic auction

Swiss authorities have blocked the sale of an ancient clay tablet, thought to have been smuggled from Iraq, on the internet auction site eBay.
A German archaeologist spotted the 4,000-tear-old tablet on eBay’s Swiss site. It is carved with cuneiform - one of the oldest known types of writing.
