Published October 29th, 2007
The department’s sales take place twice a year in April and October at Bonhams’ New Bond Street salerooms. They cover a wide range of Islamic and Indian art including pottery, metalwork and glass, ivory, jewellery and stonework. Ottoman Turkish works of art – particularly silver, textiles and Iznik pottery – make up a further section, as well as Arabic and Persian manuscripts. Bonham’s have been especially successful in recent sales with a sizeable section of Indian miniatures. Other areas dealt with include arms and armour, furniture and decorative items made for the Islamic market, and European objects imitating Islamic and Indian taste.
