Sports auction and donation net Dh73m

The Dubai Sports Council on Monday donated more than Dh70 million in one of the most successful days for the Dubai Cares charity campaign.

The Dh72.8 million effort with help from renowned sports stars brought the amount raised to Dh1.258 billion. A sports auction hosted by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and Kraken Opus under the patronage of Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Al Maktoum, raised Dh25.8 million in Dubai on Monday.

Before the auction started, Dr Ahmad Al Sharif, secretary-general of DSC, said that UAE sports clubs had donated a total of Dh47 million on the day.

Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi of Ajman also donated Dh1 million.

The item that fetched the highest price in the auction was a shirt worn by Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Asian Games. It raised Dh16 million after a bidding war between several businessmen. The winning bid was made by Mohammad Al Hashemi on behalf Za’abeel Investments.
